The selection for this year's international Script Pool competition, which focuses on film scripts, includes projects from Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Czech and Spain. For the first time the selection includes a film blending animation and live action – FLORA, When We Wish Upon a Star.
The Script Pool competition is a part of the film market activities at Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event and the Discovery Campus education programme. It showcases five outstanding international film projects along with the creative teams behind them — the director, screenwriter, and producer. The initiative seeks projects with strong distribution potential and a completed final draft. By focusing on both the script and the overall project presentation, Script Pool connects these teams with leading industry decision-makers — including sales agents, financiers, and co-producers — whose expertise helps enhance the projects’ marketability and distribution prospects.
The projects are:
Alfred Krauze: The Case of a Missing Parrot, written and directed by Kristina Parvatkina, produced by Vadim Zaikovsky. Production company: Wilx SIA (Latvia)
Apoteos, written and directed by Christofer Nilsson, produced by Annegret Kunath. Production company: Råttunge produktion (Sweden)
FLORA, When We Wish Upon a Star, written and directed by Isla Vela, produced by Ruth Costa Alonso.
The Hour between Dog and Wolf, written and directed by Terézia Halamová, produced by Natália Pavlove Other Stories, Guča films (Czech Republic)
White Ship, written and directed by Teresa Väli, produced by Inger Põder. Production company: Homeless Bob Production (Estonia)
Triin Tramberg, the manager of Script Pool programme commented:
“Over the past eight years, we’ve had the privilege of nurturing numerous outstanding projects, and nothing makes us prouder than seeing our alumni succeed on the world’s biggest stages. This year, The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo and Mama—both Script Pool alumni—premiered at Cannes, a testament to the remarkable talent that has emerged from our programme. It will be exciting to see how this year's projects resonate with audiences” .
On 20 November, the five selected projects pitch the scripts and project concepts to an audience of international industry decision-makers, including sales agents, financiers, and co-producers.
The winning project will be selected by the jury, including Yana Georgieva, Head of Sales at Bankside, UK, Camille Segura consultant, France and Per Damgaard Hansen, producers at Paloma Productions, Denmark.
The winner of Script Pool’s main award for the Most Promising Project will receive an exclusive opportunity to attend The Write Retreat in Mallorca, presented by law firm TEGOS.
The Script Pool programme features a series of panels and workshops that offer invaluable guidance for launching a first film project, while creating numerous opportunities to connect with industry professionals and expand professional networks. Each participating team works closely with renowned script advisor Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, who provides in-depth feedback on their project, and with screenwriter and script consultant David Pope who supports the team in developing a compelling pitch.
Script Pool continues its collaboration with the International Screen Institute, delivering two tailored workshops focused on the role of sales companies, film distribution and festival strategy. Patrick Fischer leads the The Business of Film session, which explores financing and recoupment structures in independent filmmaking and offers insights into how financiers evaluate projects and the key elements they prioritise.
