Just Film Industry Days - a two-day industry initiative by Just Film Festival and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event - presents sessions with acknowledged experts and opinion leaders, such as Tania Pinto Da Cunha (Pink Parrot Media), Xiaojuan Zhou (Attraction Distribution), Nils Andersson (Smorgas Bord Picturehouse) and Agata Darlasi (The S Gene), Viola Gabrielli (Polish New Horizons Association), Norwegian screenwriter Julie Skaufel and Anne Schultka (KIDS Regio) to name a few to discuss the latest trends and developments in the youth and children film industry.
Just Film Industry Days programme unfolds on 14-15 November during The Black Nights Film Festival. The event brings together youth and children film directors, producers, distributors, international panellists, but also educators, and students. The first-of-its-kind event of this region, partnered up with KIDS Regio and European Film Factory, will be focusing on AI, new media, film education, and filmmaking all to foster young audiences to find their way to the cinemas.
Highlights of the 2023 Just Film Industry Days
One of the event's highlights is an insightful session presented by KIDS Regio diving into the world of filmmaking and connecting aspiring talents directly with seasoned industry experts. The event introduces talent programs, script labs, pitching forums, distribution opportunities, and the enduring impact of children's films. During the session, Viola Gabrielli highlights the comprehensive support approach by the Polish New Horizons Association, renowned Norwegian screenwriter Julie Skaufel shares her artistic journey from local roots to international success, Agata Darlasi emphasizes the value of mentorship, particularly for projects targeting young audiences. Moderated by Anne Schultka of KIDS Regio, the session offers diverse perspectives while guiding attendees through the entire filmmaking journey, starting from script conception to engaging young audiences.
This panel discussion "Brilliant Films That Find No Audience - From The Distributors Perspective” addresses the common plight of exceptional films, laden with critical acclaim and awards, yet struggling to secure broad viewership. Exploring the distributor's viewpoint, the discussion reveals the criteria influencing film selection and widespread release. It illuminates the challenges faced in certain markets resistant to foreign or independent films, demystifying the dynamics of film distribution.
The session will be moderated by Alasdair Satchel, who shares the stage with distributor Xiaojuan Zhou from Attraction Distribution, Tania Pinto Da Cunha from Pink Parrot Media and Nils Andersson from Smorgas Bord Picturehouse.
Discussion panel “The Deepness of filmmaking - do kids these days question what’s behind the film?” takes a closer look at profound layers of filmmaking often overlooked in today's TikTok and YouTube-driven digital landscape. The discussion aims to instil a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking in younger generations. It contemplates if the allure of quick, easy-to-create content on social media overshadows the intricate craftsmanship and artistry involved in traditional filmmaking.
In addition, Just Film Works in Progress will present five new works in progress projects competing for the Just Film WIP Award. Just Film Award Includes a 1000 euro monetary prize to help the film gain visibility by covering promotion and publicity costs. An international jury will decide the winner and the Award will be presented on 17 November 2023.
