Discovery Campus, an international continuing education program by Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, in collaboration with prestigious international partners, is searching for emerging screenwriters, directors and cinematographers as well as talents in film music and art department to participate in this year's edition.

Scheduled to take place from November 18-22 in Tallinn during the renowned Black Nights Film Festival, this program welcomes emerging talents to enhance their skills and network with industry leaders.

Discovery Campus programme includes five strands: Music Meets Film, dedicated to various aspects involving film music, Frame Within the Frame for cinematographers; Black Room focusing on the art department; Black Nights Stars, designed for actors and actresses; and Script Pool competition, showcasing five international projects and their teams (director, scriptwriter, and producer). As in previous years, during the four-day program, all the participants are invited to attend masterclasses by renowned experts, workshops and events to complement and integrate their studies in filmmaking.

Building international network necessary for the future career

Triin Tramberg, Managing Director of Discovery Campus, says that the 2024 program will bring together talents from various fields of film and the creative industries. “Last year, we had over 40 participants—actors, composers, directors, screenwriters, producers, and cinematographers from all around the world. It was vibrant and inspiring!”

Tramberg continues that building a strong network is crucial in the competitive and global film industry. "One of the cornerstones of Discovery Campus is that we present new talents to the international film industry, making it an ideal platform for young talents to start building their international network. Many of last years’ participants have stayed in touch which speaks to the program's lasting impact. In a few years, we may see joint film projects from Discovery Campus participants," Tramberg adds. "I encourage young professionals to seize this opportunity to enhance their international visibility, build valuable connections, and gain essential knowledge. It's never too early to begin!"

One-of-a-kind masterclasses and workshops with top mentors

The Discovery Campus 2024 edition’s programme is in development, and mentors will be announced in autumn. Still, according to Tramberg, the exhaustive programme will include masterclasses, workshops, and practical advice by renowned masters and experts. “Our official motto is to learn from the mistakes of our mentors, so you don’t make them yourself,” she says. The list of speakers and mentors of Discovery Campus’ previous editions include director Sahar Rozen, director, producer and BAFTA-winner Mike Newell, cinematographers Philippe Ros and Dante Spinotti, production designers Jacqueline Abrahams, Maria Djurkovic, Simon Weisse, Sabine Hviid, Christian Olander, Kave Quinn, acclaimed composer, arranger and songwriter John Altman, internationally known casting directors Cassandra Han, Frank Moisell, and Julia Short from International Screen Institute among others. Over the years, Discovery Campus has hosted hundreds of talented film professionals.

The Discovery Campus programme is conducted closely with international partners, including the International Screen Institute, the online platform T-Port, High Voltage, ARRI, Tallinn City, and Orchestral Tools.

The last date for submissions for Black Room, Music Meets Film, Frame within a Frame and Script Pool is 15 August 2024. The call for Black Nights Stars is already closed.
