Welcome, Kinder!

On a cold December night in 1938, a train with 500 Jewish children leaves Berlin for Great Britain. Among them are Ruth, Iris, Jona, Henri and Elisa - five Kinder, children of the "Kindertransport scheme". Sent abroad by their parents, to save them from the terrors of the Nazi regime.

Berlin, 1938. Life became unbearably difficult for Jewish citizens, peaking in the November pogroms. While an outrage goes through the world, Great Britain is the only country to take action. They change their immigration laws and take in unaccompanied children in one of the biggest rescue efforts in European history, the “Kindertransport scheme”. We follow five children between 6 and 16 from different social backgrounds on their way to find new homes, new lives, and new hope.

Romina Ecker is an alumna of HFF Munich, was part of the writers’ room and an episode writer for the teen crime series Echos (Joyn), and wrote episodes of the series Fett & Fett (ZDF), and Breaking Even (ZDF Neo). In 2022 she was head writer for the comedy series I don’t work here (ZDF Neo). She is currently developing various series and movies. Gabriele Simon is a writer and producer based in Berlin. Her script for the feature Stambul Garden directed by Ilker Çatak won the Thomas Strittmatter Award. Next to producing she is developing several projects as a writer for TV and cinema.

Gabriele Simon is a producer and head of development for Flare Film, Berlin. Flare Film has been producing feature films, series and documentaries for the national and international market since 2008. Titles include Ein Leben lang, nominated for best TV film at the German TV Awards, the high-end series Funeral for a Dog (Sky) or the documentaries Forget Me Not and Walchensee Forever. Currently in production is the series Moresnet, in co-production with Belgium and The Netherlands.
