A musical drama about two sisters who conceal their mother’s death in order to survive and escape to Australia.

Synopsis

After concealing their mother's death to survive and keep receiving her pension, two sisters dream of fleeing to Australia. When their secret is exposed, the younger is sent to an orphanage, while the elder must decide whether she's truly emigrating – or simply running: from the memory of their father lost in the war, from the pain of loss, from her inability to find herself, and from compatriots whose silence has become complicity in what's happening, disguised by the respectable word 'war.'

Denys Kolesnikov

Denys Kolesnikov is a Ukrainian filmmaker whose storytelling focuses on inner conflict, identity, and transformation within transitional societies. His background spans international business and creative industries across diverse cultural contexts. Kolesnikov's artistic voice is shaped by the lived experience of instability and change, informing narratives that are grounded yet emotionally resonant. His films explore the blurred line between private and collective collapse. With a strong visual sensibility and a deep interest in underrepresented perspectives, he creates slow-burning, character-driven worlds. He currently lives and works in Ukraine, developing projects that reflect the complexity and tenderness of contemporary life in wartime. "Kira's Dream" is his first official feature film debut.
