Screenwriter's note:
The power structures in the territory of former Yugoslavia have remained practically the same from the period before the 1990s to this day even though it may seem that a lot has changed with the arrival of democracy. What we find interesting in this context is how some old sins govern our present life and politics. We ask whether it is possible to make things right, repent, wash away the sins of the past and truly move forward.
Bunker is a dramatic exploration of precisely those elites and their complex and sophisticated areas of the soul, the ones in which rage and fear, love and hate, resignation and fight, compassion and cynicism and patience and testiness intertwine.
The crime plot is only the basis or platform for a deeper dive into the labyrinths of a traumatic past and that makes the characters show all their faces that they did not know. The situation of the fortress, the bunker, is additionally conducive to such character stripping.
