As If Nothing Had Happened
Cristina juggles her marriage with Radu and illegal love affair with sister-in-law Nana, while fighting to survive Ceausescu’s dictatorship with dark humour and desperate imagination.
Romania, 1980s. In their final year of high school, Cristina and Nana are best friends with a secret - they’re in love, in a time and place where being gay is illegal and dangerous. When their forbidden affair is almost exposed, Nana breaks up with Cristina. Cristina marries clueless Radu, Nana’s brother. She gets the perks of a "normal" life and an excuse to stay close to Nana forever. This decision shocks Nana, pushing her away. But the women’s passion is much too strong to be repressed. Across the final decade of Communist Romania, Cristina finds herself torn between the safety of her marriage with Radu and her undying love for Nana. Will their love defy the odds or will the weight of their secrets tear them apart?
