MIDPOINT Series Launch
25 Percent
„There is an easy way to own your own home. Unfortunately, it’s illegal.“
Matyáš just wants a home for himself and his pregnant girlfriend. When hard work isn’t enough, he pulls his flatmates into clumsy heists — an unlikely rebellion against a corrupt housing market that leads to unexpected friendship.
Main production country: Czechia
Director's note
“25 Percent” tells the story of a generation that was promised everything — and got nothing but overpriced rent, climate anxiety, and a motivational quote on a cracked coffee mug.
It’s a social satire wrapped in personal tragic comedy; a portrait of young adults caught between rebellion and resignation, humour and despair. Set in the absurd reality of Central Europe — where everything feels broken, yet everyone pretends it’s fine — the series follows a group of flatmates who turn frustration into clumsy crime and find an unexpected sense of purpose in chaos.
Visually, 25 Percent blends realism with subtle stylisation: real locations, natural light, and handheld intimacy intertwined with surreal flashes, glitches, and musical detours that mirror the characters’ inner disarray.
At its core, 25% is not a story about heroes — but about the ridiculous courage of people who keep trying, even when everything tells them not to. And who laugh, because that’s the only thing left to do.
Producer's note
The housing crisis has become one of the defining stories of our time. It cuts across generations — from young people priced out of the market to their parents, who quietly wonder how it came to this. It’s not just an economic issue, but an emotional one. Everyone has a story about housing — personal, family, or absurdly funny.
That humour is essential. Even in moments of despair, there’s always irony — a kind of tragic laughter that makes the pain bearable. This tension between hopelessness and wit is what gives the project its heartbeat.
Our primary audience are young adults who live this struggle daily, but the series will resonate with anyone who has ever tried — and failed — to build a stable life. Searching for a home, after all, can take a lifetime.
Though developed locally within a Czech and Central European context, the story speaks a European language. It’s a universal theme told through a regional lens — grounded, funny, and unafraid to laugh at serious things. That’s exactly what makes it human.
We aim to turn 25 Percent into a truly European project — one that connects with young audiences and their parents alike. And we hope to find like-minded partners among broadcasters, streamers, and sales agents who share our belief that humour can be the sharpest form of truth.
Screenwiter's note
If you’re a young person in Europe dreaming of your own home, you’re left with two options: inherit something — or give up. Unless you dare to imagine a third one: just take the housing, even illegally.
25% was born out of frustration and listening — to a generation that did everything right: studied, worked, stayed ambitious. Yet adulthood still feels out of reach.
The story doesn’t start with a crime, but with a debt — ten thousand euros in back rent and a week to pay. No savings, no contracts, no hope for a mortgage. Our characters don’t dream of luxury, just a place to call their own.
The world is on fire, the fish are full of plastic, and war is never far. And we’re supposed to sign a 30-year mortgage?
25% captures the quarter-life crisis of a generation whose reality no longer matches the system’s promises. The housing crisis isn’t just economic — it’s emotional, existential, and deeply human.
We don’t want to preach. We want to laugh, provoke, and reflect. Our characters are flawed, funny, and trying to survive in a collapsing world. Rooted in the Czech experience, 25% speaks far beyond it — a comedy and a rebellion, a love letter to those who refuse to give up.
