
Osvalds Zebris is a Latvian writer and journalist, known for his psychologically and historically rich prose.
He debuted in 2010 with the short story collection “The Other Man,” which won the Latvian Literature Award for Best Debut. His acclaimed historical novel “In the Shadow of Rooster Hill” (2014) earned the European Union Prize for Literature and has been translated into seven languages.
Zebris has published several novels for both adults and young readers, including “Mara” (2019) and “Gulls of Prey” (2022), the latter awarded the Latvian Literature Prize in 2023. In 2024, he released the novel “Alive!,” exploring the enduring power of myth and folklore.
Zebris also writes for screen, contributing to films such as “January” (2022, dir. Viesturs Kairišs) and “Patrīcija” (2023, Mistrus Media). He has led prose workshops for the Latvian Writers’ Union, served on literary prize juries, and continues to shape Latvian literary discourse through both fiction and screenwriting.
