Moderated by Ulrike Rohn, the session featured panelists Eda Koppel, Inese Boka-Grūbe, Ene Katrine Rasmussen, Aleksi Hyvärinen, and Rauno Ronkainen. The discussion focused on the evolving film industry and the necessity for professionals to engage in continuous training and upskilling to meet changing audience expectations and rapid technological advancements. Key topics included identifying essential future skills for filmmakers and creatives, determining responsibility for organizing and financing training programs, and addressing the pressures of continuous upskilling, particularly for freelancers and creatives.

CresCine's Key Industry Insights and Trends: Tallinn Outlook 2024 - Audiences, Markets, Skills & Innovation

The session, organized by CresCine—a consortium of industry and academic partners—focused on the future of European cinema, covering topics such as audience preferences, content export drivers, genre performance, and industry skills alignment, particularly in smaller European film territories. The session also introduced upcoming audience design tools and a green production framework aimed at assisting producers from smaller countries in adopting sustainable practices.

At the session students from eight FilmEU universities joined filmmakers and industry experts to explore how to capture the attention of young adult audiences. The session presented key research findings on Gen Z's viewing habits and introduces innovative marketing strategies aimed at making European films and festivals more appealing to this digital-native generation. The event offered practical tools to help the industry connect meaningfully with the next wave of cinema-goers.

Why Kicking in the Butt Sells Better than Kindness

Do you remember when Kevin set up a series of painful traps, like heating the door handle, dropping paint cans, and making Marv step on nails, to outsmart the burglars in Home Alone? Do you remember when the Minions used rockets and weapons in Despicable Me? Do you remember all the times Tom and Jerry fought each other? What is boiling in the landscape of public financing for films? Are cultural values at danger when funders are faced with cutbacks? What is the effect of cash and tax incentives? "In terms of titles and genres, what is trending at cinemas?" "What does the returning audience expect?" "Has the meaning of festival recognition changed?" "And what about the producers – has their B2C understanding grown?"
