Born in El Prat de Llobregat in 1989, Laura Ferres is a screenwriter and director. Her first self-produced short film, "Los desheredados," premiered at the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won Best Short Film. Screened at over 80 festivals, it was nominated for the European Film Awards and won Best Short Film at both the Goya and Gaudí Awards, among other distinctions. Released in cinemas across Spain, it was the first time a short film had been released as a stand-alone work – that is, without being screened before a feature film or as part of a short film programme.
Her first feature film, "La imatge permanent," was presented in the Official Selection of the Locarno Festival and won the Golden Spike for Best Film at the Valladolid Film Festival. Ferrés is currently finishing the script for her second film, "El rey del aire," for which she received a scholarship from the Catalan Academy of Cinema.
