When Devils Rule
The Devil sends the seven Princes of Hell to Earth to tempt humanity.
Summoned before the Devil, the seven Princes of Hell expect to be rewarded for their eternal service. Instead, they are condemned for their complacency and sentenced to a series of perilous missions on Earth. Armed with a magical map, an enchanted clock and seven tokens representing the deadly sins, they must travel across time and history, tempting humanity and proving their worth. Constantly watched by Lucifer's invisible spies and facing impossible challenges designed by the Devil himself, each mission becomes a dangerous struggle for power, survival and redemption in a world where evil is never guaranteed to prevail.
Directors' note
The Journey of the Seven Demons reimagines Manuel Mujica Lainez's literary classic as a premium fantasy series that blends historical adventure, dark humor and the supernatural. Rather than presenting evil in simplistic terms, the series explores the seven deadly sins as timeless forces that continue to shape human nature.
My vision is to create a visually rich and immersive world where historical authenticity meets fantasy. Each episode unfolds as a new mission across different periods and cultures, allowing the demons to confront humanity's greatest virtues and flaws while revealing unexpected dimensions of their own characters.
The series combines cinematic storytelling, ambitious production design and high-end visual effects to deliver a distinctive international drama. Inspired by European art, mythology and religious iconography, it offers a fresh and entertaining perspective on universal themes such as power, temptation, ambition and redemption, making this classic story resonate with contemporary global audiences.
Producers' note
As producers, we see this series as an original concept that uses the journey of seven demons—incarnations of the seven deadly sins—to explore human nature from an ironic, critical, and contemporary perspective. Our intention is to develop a fictional work that combines humor, fantasy, and darkness, where exaggerated and contradictory characters generate both comedic situations and reflections on the weaknesses and contradictions of humankind.
The series aims to unsettle when necessary, honestly addressing the most complex and ambiguous aspects of the human condition without sacrificing entertainment. Its episodic structure, based on different missions across diverse eras and locations, provides narrative and visual variety, while the evolution of the characters and the expansion of universes like Hell and the Aether offer a solid serial narrative.
Our goal is to create a visually appealing series, accessible to a broad audience, with a defined authorial identity, capable of blending genres and offering a distinctive proposition. This vision connects with our current editorial line, focused on developing universal stories, far removed from political connotations and enriched by cultural diversity, as we are already doing in the series “Patagonia”, co-produced with Chile for Movistar+.
Screenwriters' note
When Devils Rule transforms Manuel Mujica Lainez's acclaimed novel into a serialised television drama while preserving its literary spirit and distinctive irony. Our adaptation expands the original premise into a multi-layered narrative that combines self-contained adventures with an overarching storyline, allowing both the mythology and the characters to evolve across the season.
The seven Princes of Hell are not merely antagonists but the protagonists of the story. Each embodies one of the deadly sins, yet each possesses a unique personality, motivations and contradictions that challenge conventional notions of good and evil. Their journey through different eras and civilisations offers an opportunity to explore history, culture and human nature from an unexpected perspective.
The series balances fantasy, suspense, humour and emotional depth, creating a story that appeals to a broad international audience while remaining faithful to the intelligence and originality of the source material. Our ambition is to craft a premium series where every episode presents a new moral dilemma, while the characters gradually discover that the greatest threat may not be humanity, but themselves.
