Director's note

Helsinki and Tallinn are just 85 kilometres apart, yet to many Finns, Tallinn is
represented by postcards, a stroll through the Old Town, or stock footage in news
headlines. Our ambition is to create a series in which Tallinn is a living, layered city
rather than simply a setting.
Above all, we want to tell a story about people. Six individuals, completely diDerent from
one another, forced to rely on each other, and what happens when they truly begin to do
so.

Producer's note

Only a few television genres have travelled as successfully across the world as Nordic crime drama. Nordic Noir, to be specific. With Helsinki–Tallinn, we wanted to maintain the tension and depth which defines this genre, but to bring it into broad daylight and close to everyday life. Our Scandi blue series, as we like to call it, is a contemporary take on Nordic storytelling across the Baltic Sea. Although Finland and Estonia are separated by only a two-hour ferry ride, they are often portrayed as two distinct worlds. In reality, the connection between our countries is evident. People commute, businesses operate across borders, families have roots on both sides of the Gulf. The very same connectivity also creates the perfect environment for organised crime. Helsinki–Tallinn follows Finnish police officers assigned to a newly established joint investigation unit in Tallinn, where they work side by side with their Estonian colleagues. Each case becomes not only a criminal
investigation but also a meeting point for two cultures that share similar values while being shaped by different histories and traditions.
