Two lovers longing for parenthood are drawn into a secluded Romanian wellness community anchored in a horrifying belief: you can meet your child before it exists.

Victor and his wife Ana, an emerging entrepreneur, meet another couple during a routine gynecological visit. Drawn by a potential investment, they follow them to a secluded wellness community surrounded by forest and fields. Within this closed world, intimacy grows intrusive. They submit to breath-induced trance work, mechanical bodily suspension and mirrored isolation chambers. All of these serve the idea that birth can happen before conception.

Director's note

When I think about believing in something greater than us, the real question is whom we choose to trust and why. This film grew from observing how the search for meaning, around birth, spirit and continuity, can be reshaped.

Inspired by real events in Romania, the abuse portrayed emerges from the need to belong and from unaddressed trauma. What interested me the most was not the cult leader as a monster, but the system he built: a structure where obedience feels voluntary and abuse can happen without everyone feeling like a victim.

The modern obsession with zen and mindfulness leads to a dangerous trap, where enlightenment becomes a tool. This logic echoes past political systems, such as Communism, which exploited people through faith in a single savior. Its pattern persists today. The elections of 2024 revealed how spiritual and New Age rhetoric can elevate political figures into objects of blind belief. Sun Offspring is about how love and empathy can turn into a weapon.

This project represents groundbreaking territory for the SEE region, particularly for Romania, where genre filmmaking that blends occult and spiritual practices with horror and new-age beliefs remains rare. We are carving out new space in European cinema, and with the right partners, we are confident this film can reach beyond continental borders and firmly position us as creators of original, daring, and culturally resonant work.

We are currently in development and seeking to connect with committed partners, private and public funders, and festival representatives as we secure development support. We are particularly looking for SEE partners ready to join us in bringing this bold vision to life and shaping a project that stands apart on the international stage.

The project has already attracted early interest from the US-based sales agency Yellow Veil, which has expressed interest in following its development.
