The Near Future Retreat

Near Future Retreat (NFR) is a radical think tank conversation. Originating at Industry@Tallinn BE 2022, Retreats were held during 2023 at the European Film Market Berlin, NEXT/Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes, New Nordic Films Haugesund and at Finnish Film Affair Helsinki, and now, we return to Tallinn. The facilitated 4-hour exchange allows for deeper reflection as each Retreat brings out a broad spectre of perspectives on the film- & TV landscape, now and for the future. Why NFR? Because stories and artists matter more than ever now. Imagining what does not yet exist gives us unique access to generate change across the audio-visual ecosystem and in society. By accepting the transformation we are in, by embracing sustainability, equity, inclusion, love and resilience, a shared, greater responsibility for people and for the planet is possible. To imagine new narratives and which values and relations a future landscape can hold – for this we need to make inner knowledge a wider, shared knowledge.
