Frame Within a Frame Master Screening: : The Eternal Road (Open)
This programme features a special screening of The Eternal Road, a Finnish cinematographic masterpiece. Following the screening, there will be an in-depth case study on the unique collaboration between the gaffer and the cinematographer. Cinematographer Rauno Ronkainen FSC, and Gaffer Ville Penttilä FSC, ICLS, will lead the discussion. Ville’s exceptional collaboration with Rauno on The Eternal Road earned them the Finnish Society of Cinematographers' award. The session will be moderated by Matilde Matvere, who was also a crew member of the film, providing further insight into the creative and technical processes behind this acclaimed work.
Jussi Ketola, a Finnish man, returns from America trying to escape from the Great Depression. He finds his country in great political turmoil. One night, Ketola is abducted from his home by nationalists and is forced to walk the Eternal Road towards Soviet Russia. He finds himself in a kolkhoz founded by American Finns who have escaped the Great Depression into the USSR. But the Stalin's persecutions are at the doorstep.
