Director-Composer Lab: Composing the Script

In collaboration with the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM), this workshop offers an immersive exploration of the director-composer relationship, led by by the renowned composer Martin Phipps. It begins with a closed online workshop, where Music Meets Film participants will be paired with young directors from BFM, each bringing thier film script. Following a session, composers will create the 1 motif and 2 letimotifs (all 1-minute) using Orchestral Tools packages, collaborating directly with their directors. The workshop concludes in Tallinn with a listening and feedback session led by Martin Phipps, during which each pair reflects on their creative choices, gaining firsthand insight into how music and picture shape each other in real-world filmmaking. At the end of the workshop, the jury will decide on a winning pair, who will be awarded at the closing ceremony.
