CresCine Exclusive: The European Small Market Conundrum — Can Arthouse Ever Equal Profit?

With over 2,500 European feature-length productions hitting the market annually, only a handful crossing the million admissions mark globally, and larger policy shifts poised to shake the subsidies for indie productions across the continent, producers and financiers face an ever-pressing dilemma: can arthouse, especially from small markets, ever equal profit?
A clear view of Europe's film performance throughout its journey from funding to festivals, venues, and VODs is thus essential. CresCine, a three-year Horizon-Europe-funded project, returns for the last time to the Industry@Tallinn & Baltic event with a one-hour, insights-packed exclusive focusing on the future of competitive financing for European indies and small countries alike.
The session will unveil CresCine's FIDA tool, helping producers, investors, and sales and distributors gain a bird's-eye view of what's funded and how it's performing. It will also explore films from small countries and provide strategic tips for success and failure in the hypercompetitive distribution landscape. Lastly, the session will address whether blockchain is back in business for more efficient film life cycle management, at a time when every euro counts.
