2026. How can you survive as a writer-director?

The event is organised by Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA) and cohosted by Estonian Filmdirectors' Guild (EFG) and Estonian Audiovisual Authors Union (EAAL). This panel discussion explores how writer-directors can build sustainable careers in today’s audiovisual industry. The conversation will focus on collective bargaining, fair pay, authors’ rights and the role of professional organisations and state institutions in creating and protecting fair working conditions. Drawing on experiences from Estonia and across Europe, the panel will look at existing models, current challenges and practical ways to strengthen the professional position of audiovisual authors.
