Eva Cools is a Belgian-Spanish screenwriter and film director. She graduated in 2007 from Sint-Lukas, Brussels, with a major in Audiovisual Arts. She wrote and directed 4 short films: De Puta Madre (2006), El Camino del Deseo (2007), Las Meninas (2012) and Everything comes back (2014) which were nominated and awarded at various national and international film festivals. Eva is committed to authenticity in her work, driven by the motto: "No story without backstory." She is dedicated to capturing the right emotions and fragility in her stories, fostering empathy with her audience. When it comes to directing, Eva believes that casting is half the battle.
In 2019 Eva made her feature film debut with CLEO. The film had its Belgian premiere at Film Fest Ghent in the Explore Zone and its international premiere at the Rome Film Festival (Alice Nella Città), where it received the award for the best first feature film. CLEO was selected for 17 international film festivals, winning a total of six awards. In 2020, she directed the dramedy series Bathroom Stories for the Flemish public broadcaster VRT MAX. Currently she is developing her second feature film Norden.
