Estonian VFX studio FrostFX has won the 2025 Emmy Award for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode" with their work on HBO’s The Penguin. The award was presented at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony, which highlights excellence in technical achievements across television.
“When my father asked me more than 20 years ago what I wanted from life, I didn’t know how to answer,” said FrostFX founder Marko Post. “All I knew was that I wanted to do something bigger than myself. Today, I can tell him in my thoughts: we won an Emmy. This isn’t just our victory—it’s proof that great things can grow from even the smallest places.”
The project united artists from around the globe, led by FrostFX VFX Supervisor Eugene Bondar in collaboration with the series’ overall VFX Supervisor Johnny Han. The Emmy-winning episode was the result of contributions from several international studios.
“The competition was fierce. We honestly expected Severance to take the award, given their excellent work and strong marketing push. But we were delighted when The Penguin earned this win—it means the world to us,” added Post.
He also expressed gratitude: “Thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible—our team, our international partners, and especially the Estonian Film Institute for their support.”
This marks FrostFX’s first Emmy win and a milestone for Estonia’s visual effects industry on the global stage. Earlier this year, the studio also received a Visual Effects Society (VES) Award for the same project.
