Filmmakers from Estonia, Ukraine and Bulgaria have joined forces on A Girl from Tallinn, a six-part thriller directed by Ilmar Raag. The series filmed in Ukraine and Estonia during summer 2026 and is expected to reach audiences in spring 2027.
The story moves between the present day and the early 1990s, following the discovery of a young woman’s remains in an Estonian forest. The investigation uncovers a murder that remained hidden for decades.
Filming began in Kyiv and Lviv in May before moving to Tallinn in July. Ukrainian locations also stood in for Estonia during the earlier period, helping the filmmakers recreate an atmosphere that has become harder to find in contemporary Tallinn.
Zolba Productions leads the project, with Ukraine’s Film.UA and Bulgaria’s Agitprop as co-producers, in collaboration with ERR’s Estonian Television Film Studio and Go3.
The production combines regional creative expertise, locations and broadcasting partners in a story spanning countries and generations.
