From adaptive game scores to cinematic themes, these panelists will share workflow insights and practical lessons for composers, directors, and music supervisors working across film and interactive projects. Dialogue on Contracts: What Should and Shouldn't Be In a Contract

Contracts can define or derail creative collaborations. In this interactive panel-workshop, attorney-at-law Priit Lätt and composer Helena Tulve come together to demystify the essentials of film composer agreements. Using a sample contract as their guide, they will explore what should and shouldn’t be included, while illustrating their insights with real-life examples from legal and artistic perspectives. This dialogue offers both practical guidance and cautionary examples, helping participants better understand rights, responsibilities, and potential pitfalls. Designed for composers, producers, directors, and anyone working at the intersection of music and film, the session provides tools to enter negotiations more confidently and build stronger, fairer collaborations.

Director-Composer Lab: Composing the Cut

Workshop: 20-21 November 2025

In collaboration with the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM), this workshop offers an immersive exploration of the director-composer relationship, led by Emmy-nominated composer Miriam Cutler. It begins with a public lecture highlighting the importance of collaboration, case studies, and key considerations before and during the scoring process. For the closed workshop, Music Meets Film participants will be paired with young directors from BFM, each bringing a 2-minute work-in-progress film clip. Following a spotting session, composers will create the score using Orchestral Tools packages, collaborating directly with their directors until the next day. The workshop concludes the following morning with a listening and feedback session led by the mentor, during which each pair reflects on their creative choices, gaining firsthand insight into how music and picture shape each other in real-world filmmaking.

The Space Within the Score

BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated composer Atli Örvarsson has crafted unforgettable scores for projects such as Silo, Rams, Defending Jacob, Chicago Med, The Eagle and many more. In this exclusive masterclass, moderated by Estonian composer and film music professor Ardo Ran Varres, Örvarsson will share his approach to scoring and the creative use of space in music. Through in-depth case studies on Rams and Silo, the audience will gain rare behind-the-scenes insights into how these distinctive soundscapes were developed. The session also explores Örvarsson’s collaborations across international film and television, offering practical career guidance for emerging composers while shedding light on the director–composer dynamic, valuable for composers, directors, and producers alike.
