Hessen Film & Medien

We, Hessen Film & Medien, are the first point of contact for film funding in Hesse, Germany. With the goal to strengthen the regional film and media industry, we support film and media professionals and those who want to shoot and produce in Hesse. We promote both the artistic and commercial quality of film and series productions and offer support throughout all production stages. Our goal is to pave the way for daring ideas while promoting emerging talent, diversity, social and environmental sustainability as well as transparent structures.

Two focal points are the work with emerging talent and the promotion of documentary films: talents should be able to establish themselves as part of the local film industry. We also promote outstanding documentary film formats. In addition to financial support, we create networking platforms and regularly offer workshops for the further professionalization of the industry.

Another key focus is the targeted promotion of international co-productions, which allows Hessian production companies to expand their global network and gain valuable international experience. Therefore, to qualify for an international co-production, a German co-production partner is required. We emphasize the importance of local involvement, ensuring a minimum local spend of 125%, with particular attention to the participation of local filmmakers and service providers. There is no requirement for shooting days to take place in Hesse.

Through STEP, our continuing education and industry qualification program, we ensure strong talent and individual professionalization. The one-of-a-kind program provides an effective tool to counter the shortage of skilled workers in the film industry. Unique film locations, numerous production companies and experienced film professionals who think outside the box make Hesse a special film location. From high-end to arthouse, Hesse covers it all. We stand for sustainability and encourage film productions and cinemas to think and act green.
