Black Room Rules & Regulations

GENERAL

Black Nights Discovery Campus is an international continuing education platform organised by the Black Nights Film Festival in collaboration with Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event (ITBE) and several prestigious international partners. It offers young film professionals the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, develop new skills, and expand their professional networks.

Our guiding motto is: “Learn from the mistakes of our mentors, so you don’t make them yourself.”

Discovery Campus brings together several renowned talent programmes: Script Pool, Black Nights Stars, Music Meets Film, Black Room, and Frame Within a Frame.

Black Room is Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event's training program dedicated to the visual language and artistry of cinema - The Art Department. Each year, the course focuses on one sub-department and invites emerging art department crew members - production designers, art directors, costume designers, makeup artists, set designers etc., to participate in a masterclass aimed to empower their skills and industry knowledge in creating visually compelling cinematic worlds.

OBJECTIVES
The programme aims to expand skills and knowledge of emerging talents when pursuing a career as an international film professional :

FORMAT
Black Room programme is a 4-day in person workshop, taking place in Tallinn, Estonia from 18 to 21 November 2025. The programme is designed by the project manager and the mentor. Based on the theme of the programme, it might consist of case studies, study of artistic methodologies, hands-on workshops, individual or group assignments, creative business building, panel discussions etc.

The program will take place 18-21 November in Tallinn during the Industry@Tallin & Baltic Event.

Once selected, participation is subject to payment of an accreditation fee of 250 euros. Fee includes mentorship, accommodation for 4 nights, film screenings at Black Nights Film Festival and opportunity to take part in other Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event events.

Please note that the round-trip airfare is to be paid by the participants. Please contact your local film fund or institute who can help to cover these costs.

The official language of the market is English.

Once selected, it is mandatory to take part in the events designed for Discovery Campus participants.

ELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSIONS
The applicants are required to fill in the online application form on the submission website providing all the requested information and documents, from May 1st to June 30, 2025. Late applications will not be taken into consideration.

The final selection of participants will be announced by September 1st, 2025 at the latest directly to the participants as well as communicated further via the festival/industry press.

PROCEEDINGS AND TALENT SELECTION
All properly filled and complete applications shall be reviewed by the Selection Committee composed of experts appointed by the Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event management.
The main selection criterias are:

8 international talents (make-up artists/designer, SFX make-up artists/designers) will be selected to participate in Black Room programme.

APPLICANT’S OBLIGATIONS DURING INDUSTRY@TALLINN & BALTIC EVENT
Each Applicant that gets chosen to participate in Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event is required to cooperate with the employees and persons of responsibility of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event during its entire course. In case the Applicant without justification violates any of his/her obligations stated in these Regulations which he/she had accepted by submitting the Application Form, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event management may disqualify the Applicant from further participation in the event.

APPLICANT’S OBLIGATIONS AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT
All participants of Discovery Campus programmes must provide feedback to further the development of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event educational programmes.

FINAL PROVISIONS
The official language of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event is English. In regard to all matters not expressly settled by these Regulations good business practices and current regulations of Estonia and its entities are to be applied. Any amendments and supplements to these Regulations shall be made by Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event management.

By submitting an Application the Applicant agrees to all provisions of these Regulations.

These Regulations come into effect from the day of their publishing on the webpage of Industry@Tallinn&Baltic Event, and are effective since 28 April 2025.
