Mikel Gurrea is a writer-director born in Donostia in 1985. He graduated from Barcelona's Pompeu Fabra University and the London Film School. His short films have been awarded in festivals such the Montreal World Film Festival and his dramatic work for the stage as a playwright has opened in theaters like London's Queen Elizabeth Hall or Madrid's Fernan-Gomez. His latest short film, “Heltzear”, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section. After that, it was screened at the San Sebastian Film Festival's Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section. The film has also been selected for the Kimuak catalogue. Mikel is currently in post-production of his feature film debut “Suro (Cork)”. “Suro” is a feature film developed at San Sebastian-backed Ikusmira Berriak 2016 Residency, Sources2 and the Sam Spiegel Film Lab, starring Vicky Luengo and Pol López. Mikel is a collaborator of the Cinema en Curs project and of the EQZE film school.
