European Film Forum Tallinn 2019: Industry (R)Evolution: Debating Tech, Streaming, and Future Talent for European Cinema
Europe’s cinema, television, and content industries are in 2019, continuing to navigate through its most radical transformations since its foundations. Competition for eyeballs and fragmented audiences, the streaming wars between super platforms and independent, the absence of clear cut solutions and fail-safe business models, intensified competition in the festival circuit and distribution windows, and looming (br) exit of one of Europe’s production powerhouses are all posing big questions for the European industry. Combined with giant leaps in technology a fragmented know-how and adoption, many will wonder where the (r)evolution will head?
Amidst these fundamental processes, the Creative Europe MEDIA program, as the primary supporter of the European audiovisual industry, is evolving. The current program finishes at the end of 2020, and the Commission has proposed the successor program to start in 2021. Thus the combination of structural changes in the industry as well as the new and upcoming term for Creative Europe MEDIA marks the arrival of a new era of opportunities for European storytellers and audiovisual industry entrepreneurs.
The European Film Forum, as a debate and discussion platform on the future evolution of European cinema, will return to Nordic Hotel Forum on November 27, 2019, with executive-level debates, case studies, and showcases on the most pressing topics for the European film, television, and content industry.
