Dirk Hoyer is is a researcher and filmmaker currently working as an Associate Professor of Audiovisual Arts at BFM in Tallinn, Estonia. He obtained his Master at the Sorbonne and his Doctor of Arts at Aalto University.

His research is focused on script-writing, film history, political narratives and artistic research. Hoyer also has also written and directed two feature films and two documentaries. At the moment he is working on his second monograph Retopia- Spaces of Possibility (commissioned by Routledge) and also on a new film project.
